A big THANK YOU! again for all of you who are supporting this blog with your visits, comments and especially with your "likes" on our facebook page! www.facebook.com/OurEyesEatFirst .
I made a commitment when this blog was first launched to make this more than just about beautiful and delicious food. There are so many who go to bed with hungry, grumbling bellies all around the world, everyday. My passion for cooking and food would not be justified without thinking of and supporting them as well.
As I have mentioned before: I hope that by attracting visitors to this website and blog, that that attention can then be turned towards many deserving charities. At 100 facebook page "likes" Our Eyes Eat First was able to highlight and give to a wonderful charity - Martha's Table.
Martha’s Table is a not-for-profit organization which serves our nation’s capitol in several ways. One of which is by providing “meals to the homeless 365 days a year at various sites throughout the city, as well as providing meals to senior shut-ins and community holiday meals”. I have had the opportunity to personally volunteer with Martha’s table and have seen first hand the difference they make.
Now that we have reached the 200 likes mark (and more) it is my privilege to spotlight and donate to another worthy cause. Earlier, I posted a poll asking you, the readers, to help choose which charity to give to next. The overwhelming response was to support the Share Our Strength organization.
Share Our Strength’s goal is to end childhood hunger in America. Working with others, we believe we can do this by 2015.
It’s not enough to make sure America’s children have enough to eat; we must make sure they are getting the nutrition they need to live healthy, active lives.
That is why Share Our Strength’s highest priority is to make sure that every child in America gets the nutritious food he or she needs to learn, grow and thrive. We are doing this by improving the access that families all across the country have to healthy, affordable food and by working at the state and city level.
What a wonderful and worthy cause! I invite each of you to take the No Kid Hungry Pledge today: http://nokidhungry.org/
So please continue to enjoy the website/blog/facebook page and then please pass the link along to others who also love food! Not only will they get to see great recipes and nice pictures, they will also have the opportunity to hear about some worthwhile causes - to eventually give those charities more of the attention they deserve.
